Condolence: Mr. Gutierrez was one of the most inspiring teachers I’ve had. Every day before class I found myself excited to come to his class and learn. I remember he was enlivened, waving his arms, moving around the room, and amplifying his voice in his classes. He had an extremely visible passion for teaching and gave a very enlivened atmosphere that animated students’ desires to learn. He had a wonderfully creative way of teaching the material: not only through his lively talks, but through music, discussions, simulations, videos and pictures, and by having us interview people that experienced these times in the past, and by many more ways. It was clear that Mr Gutierrez wanted to teach students in a truly great, enjoyable, and excitingly diverse way, and it really gave students an experience with the magic of learning. Mr. Gutierrez inspired me, and his class is one of the ways I learned that I love to learn history. I really am so thankful for the care Mr. Gutierrez had for his class and his students personally. I give my condolences to the family and friends. He was an amazingly great teacher to have at Boulder High and had an incredibly positive impact!

Condolence: I first met Jared while serving as his district mentor during his first year of teaching at Boulder High School. I visited his classroom for at least a half day every other week for the entire year. From our very first meeting, I was truly impressed by his incredible work ethic, his caring relationships with all students, and his openness to any feedback involving his instructional craft. Jared was a gifted teacher who was always pushing to meet the learning needs of every student in each class, and our professional conversations about teaching were a wonderful balance of how to deliver complex content in a creative, engaging manner while also building a learning community where each student knew they mattered every day. I loved visiting Jared’s classroom in order to watch him connect with students and teach passionately about American history in a relevant, timely manner. Jared was one of the best young educators I have ever worked with, and his death is a tremendous loss to the Boulder Valley School District as well as the Boulder High students and their families. More than anything, Jared was always a welcoming presence when I came to visit. Even though we spent most of our time discussing teaching, he always took the time to ask how I was doing and to inquire about my family. We spent a lot of time in his tiny office getting to know one another as teachers, and during that year I saw him as a true colleague and a highly respected professional. Even though Jared will be deeply missed in the halls and classrooms at Boulder High, he has left a powerful legacy in those students who had the good fortune to be in his classes. His impact is unforgettable and profound.
In a quote from the musical, “Hamilton”, which Jared shared with students, a character questions:
“And when my time is up, have I done enough? Will they tell my story?”
The answer is yes, Jared, you did plenty in your time at Boulder High. And your story will be told by your students, by your teaching colleagues, by those who knew you and loved you.
Rest In Peace, my friend.

Condolence: Mr. Gutierrez was a gem of teacher... challenging, inspiring, encouraging, positive, and most importantly, caring. It was obvious that he cared deeply for his students. The world is certainly a better place for having him here, if even for a brief time.

Condolence: A message to the family,

I first had Mr. Gutierrez as my US. government teacher during my freshman at Boulder high school. To this day, this was my favorite class I have ever taken. The care and compassion I felt from him was unrivaled by any other teacher. Mr. Gutierrez had an incredible ability to engage his students and make learning exciting. He was the only teacher I saw as my friend not someone who just gave me homework. He was a greatly influential person in my life. He inspired me to excel in my studies and make the most out of life. I looked up to him so much. I send my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. I want them to know his spirit will live on through the countless students he inspired, and influenced. He will be missed.
