Nancy Kay Riedesel Spencer

Nancy Spencer enjoyed a wonderful life. She was born Nancy Kay Riedesel in Davenport, Iowa on January 19, 1935. Her parents Francis Clark Riedesel, and Dorothy Franco Riedesel, resided in Iowa where Nancy was raised.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Alan Riedesel, and her step son, Curtis Spencer and his family. She had four grandchildren. Nieces include Christine Riedesel Oesterling and Claudia Riedesel Notz; nephews include Mark, Matthew and Craig Riedesel. She had six great nieces and nephews.

As a young lady, Nancy loved basketball and helped her Monona high school team place second in the state basketball tournament twice. She earned her B.A. at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, IA, and remained life-long friends with her roommates from her college days, traveling to roommate reunions even into her 80’s. Her first teaching position was in Alpena, MI. She moved to Denver and became a high school home economics teacher. She enjoyed a long tenure as a terrific teacher helping young people learn how to cook and master life skills. Nancy married her beloved late husband, Curt Spencer, March 1, 1982.

Nancy and Curt had a very long and loving marriage. They were devoted to their dogs including Poggie, Cammie, and most recently Rosemarie. They enjoyed many hobbies together including traveling on road trips, crafts, his woodworking and her sewing. Nancy was incredibly talented in the kitchen, and enjoyed crafting ornate holiday table-scapes with the changing seasons. Nancy also had an extensive Madame Alexandre doll collection.

Most recently, Nancy lived at the Green Mountain Brookdale assisted living community and was known to always have a pleasant word or smile for everyone she encountered during the day. She enjoyed all the social interaction with fellow residents, and everyone loved her and her dog, Rosemarie.

Nancy passed away on Dec 19th, 2018, surrounded by loving friends and family.
Burial services will be at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver Colorado on Dec 26th at 11 a.m.

Nancy was a dear friend for 66 years. She was sweetness personified--loving, caring, with a warm, positive view of the world. She was elegant, loving beauty in her flower gardens and her home. She went far beyond friendship in 1957 to see me through a difficult time. I know how she cherished you and your family who looked after her after her beloved Curtis died. I shall miss her. After God removes wickedness and suffering, the earth will be transformed into a paradise. Then people will be able to live forever in perfect health and happiness. God’s Word foretells: “[God] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.”—Revelation 21:4. In that new world, even dead ones will be brought back to life to share in those blessings: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15) That is why Jesus Christ could tell a repentant evildoer who expressed faith in him: “You will be with me in Paradise.”—Luke 23:43. I hope these thoughts provide some comfort during this difficult time.

Nancy was incredibly special. Always a big, bright smile, and sweetness and kind words for everyone. She was the first person I would see every day, and one of the last every evening. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of the life of this amazing, sweet, kind woman. I will miss her every day.

Nancy was an absolute ray of sunshine. She and her dog Rosmarie would come visit us in the salon even when it wasn’t her day to get her hair done, just to say hello and allow us to love on her puppy. She will be very missed.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Nancy was such a doll. I did her hair every other week, and she will be missed
