Obituary

On Sunday, February 16, 2020, D. Scott Buennemeyer, beloved husband, passed away suddenly at age 55 in Louisville, Colorado.

Scott was born on November 21, 1964 in Urbana, Illinois to Robert and Mary Lou (McVicker) Buennemeyer. On January 3, 1987, he married Valerie Noel Hyslop, the love of his life.

In 1989 and 1992, respectively, he received Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Scott had various Information Technology positions over the past 26 years. Scott was a dedicated engineer and he loved serving others to solve problems. He was always willing to generously help others when needed.

Scott had a passion for snowboarding. He loved playing billiards and building remote control planes. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind, gentle and compassionate spirit. He will be greatly missed by so many.

I worked with Scott for several years at NOAA in Boulder. He cared deeply about his work and the people in his life. Scott and I spent some great days together cruising the slopes at Winter Park and Copper Mountain. Whether it was cold and snowing or we were soaking in the Colorado sunshine, Scott enjoyed snowboarding fast, carving deep turns into the mountain. Scott was smart and had a great sense of humor. I will miss him.

I worked closely with Scott over his many years here at NOAA. Scott was easy and fun to work with, and in addition he was very creative when needed. He developed unusual solutions to processing problems that continue to serve us well--now for nearly 18 years. That's a long time in the software business.
I've missed Scott's colleagueship since he left NOAA, and I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. I send my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

I second Stan Benjamin’s comments about Scott, Scott was always very helpful and patient with me as a scientist who is not tech savvy. My sincere sympathy for what surely is a heavy loss.

Scott was great colleague for us at NOAA for 18 years. He was our sys admin for our local computers to enable our development of more accurate weather models. Scott was extremely effective, always helpful, and we really liked him and especially, his naming of our computers for cartoon characters (of which Scott was extremely knowledgeable).

Scott was a great brother-in-law. He took our sons out to learn snowboarding after gently instructing them. He was always helping others. He certainly loved Marvin the Martian and he had a great sense of humor.
