Obituary

Robert D. Vaughan

Born March 8, 1925 in Ohio.
Passed away August 7, 2020 in Colorado Springs, CO - 95 years old

Bob grew up as a young boy during the Great Depression. He served in the Army during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in business administration. He worked many years for AT&T in Denver and Manhattan and then for several small businesses in Boulder, CO. Having a strong work ethic, he started his own business late in life and worked well into his 80s.

Bob loved to travel, exercise, camp, read, fish, garden and he appreciated a good meal. He lived a very active lifestyle and always had a project he was working on. He managed money well and loved to talk about economics. In discussions with him, people admired his strong vocabulary that he used routinely. As a humble and unpretentious man, he lived in the same house in Boulder for more than 50 years until May 2020 when he moved to Colorado Springs to be near his daughter.

Bob enjoyed good health all his life and had no major surgeries, leaving him with nearly all original parts except for his tonsils. He stayed active up until the end of his life. He had been active in the Episcopalian faith and quietly expressed his faith in Jesus.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann, three daughters, Karen (Bruce), Margo (Tim) and Diane, as well as two grandsons, Michael and Daniel. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Ruth McLelland, niece Perry, nephew Ken, and cousin Cathy Raggio (Jim) and her family.

Deepest appreciation to Bob’s neighbors, doctors, nurses, techs, therapists, chaplain and staff at Bonaventure Senior Living in Colorado Springs, Optimal Home Health, Bloom Home Health Care, New Century Hospice, and all others who took loving care of him. He was described by his caretakers as a good story teller, funny, pleasant and compliant.

A service at Fort Logan National Cemetery is anticipated.

In lieu of flowers or contributions please love someone well, share a meal with them and treasure your time with them.

It is apparent that Bob was a good man and a good father. What a tender tribute you've written for him, Margo. It helps me to know more about him, and I look forward to hearing more stories about your life with him. Praise goes to God for the close relationship you had with your dad, and for the time you were able to spend with him after he moved to Colorado Springs. I will continue prayers for you and your family.

It was an honor to pray for Margo and her dad, Bob. I had walked this walk with my dad a couple of years ago. I know what
it means to have friends standing in the gap praying and encouraging you. It was fun writing Bob notes that Margo would
read to him and discuss . I told Bob how my dad was in WWII like he was. My dad was in the Navy, the Pacific. Sensing there
was a common bond that he would smile thinking of the 40's. Psalm 116: 15 says: " Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His godly ones, I can see Jesus introducing the two of them and the three, Jesus, Bob and dad chatting about the
40's. I also believe that Jesus is smiling and has told Margo time and time agin well done MY daughter. You did amazing
things for and with your dad!

I am so grateful to know a little bit about Bob through his daughter Margo who is a beloved friend of mine. I am so grateful for Bob having moved to Colorado Springs during his final days and being able to spend time with Margo in spite of Covid. Bob sounds like he was a very special man – just like this particular daughter who makes me laugh and sends me to the foot of the Cross.

Bob sounds like a man I would have enjoyed knowing! He sounded like the parent we'd all love to have and to be like - kind and caring, industrious, active. Thank you for sharing with us a bit about a life well-lived!
