Alice Seigal

January 14, 1954 — October 23, 2013

Alice Cornelia Seigal, 59, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away on October 23rd 2013 from cardiac arrest. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 2pm at Cornerstone Church in Boulder. Alice was an exceptional athlete, rising to the US National Track Team in the 1970s, competing internationally for the United States, being one of the best high jumpers in the world and winning Gold for the United States on several occasions.
Alice was an amazing and inspirational mother to her four children, a loving wife to her husband Steven Seigal, a wonderful sister, friend, and community member in Boulder County. She received her doctorate from the College of Veterinary Medicine at CSU in 1981 and soon after followed her dream of owning a veterinary hospital in Boulder. Alice was a visionary – she was always striving for the best for herself and those around her. She knew that in order to provide the greatest care for the pets and pet owners of Boulder, her clinic would need to be open 24 hours and offer the best services possible, which she quickly made happen and became a huge success. This was the first 24 hour veterinary hospital in a town the size of Boulder in the entire country.
Alice was always looking for ways to improve and expand her skill. After becoming a doctor of vet medicine, she continued to study and learn. She soon became the first woman in the State of Colorado to be Board Certified with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Specialty Small Animals, an incredible achievement. Later she became the first woman in Colorado to be inducted into Rotary club in 1987, an honor that she was extremely proud of. She won the Small Business of the Year Award from the Boulder Chamber of Commerce. She won the Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Award giving pet owners of Boulder access to one of the best hospitals in the US. She was voted Best Veterinarian in the Boulder Daily Camera Best of Boulder Readers Choice Awards for 10 years in a row, a testament to her compassion, skill, expertise, and commitment.
This is the kind of person Alice was - dedicated, hard-working, and motivated, and yet incredibly humble and loving. She was always warm, loving, and helping those around her. After selling her clinic in 2001 to focus her energy on raising her two adopted children, she continued to help the community by volunteering with organizations around the city. Every single day of Alice’s life she was looking for ways to help those around her. Her love and positive energy were contagious, and those around her were deeply touched by her generosity and warm heart. She was a blessing to those who knew her, and she will always be cherished in our hearts.
She is survived by her husband Steven, four children Vanessa, Max, Ashley, and Mikayla, and her two sisters Fran and Chris.
