Ann Klara Del Pizzo of Louisville, Colorado passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born to Czechoslovakian immigrants John and Mary Waschak in 1933. Ann lived in interesting times during her 91 years. She witnessed many world changing events - World War II, the 1st radio broadcast, the advent of television, the JFK assassination, space exploration and the first moon landing, Watergate, the rise of computers, cell phones, 9/11, the digital age and numerous other changes large and small.
A lifelong member of St. Louis parish, she attended St. Louis School then Louisville High School graduating in 1951. During high school, Ann worked as a PBX switch board operator for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in town. After graduation, she continued to work for the phone company in Denver until she married her high school sweetheart. Later in life, she became the local Avon lady winning many awards for sales.
She met her soon to be husband, Nick Del Pizzo in high school. They married in April of 1953 when he was still in the Navy and celebrated 57 years together. Both of them enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas many times over the years and even a European cruise. Later in retirement, Black Hawk and Central City were the place to recreate.
Family was the cornerstone of Ann's life. Ann and Nick made their home in Louisville adding three daughters to the family, Theresa, Cynthia and Jennifer. Eventually, the family grew to include three sons-in-law, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Hosting holiday celebrations was a highlight as the family got larger.
As a stay-at-home mom, Ann took care of the girls, ran the household, cooking and baking. Ann did shine in the bakery department. Pies, cakes, brownies, candies and cookies were favorites of all. She took special pride in ethnic baking Czech and Italian breads and desserts.
Being bi-lingual Ann was fluent in Slovak, which allowed her to correspond with relatives still living in Europe. She loved embroidery and crochet. She made all manner of items from doilies, pillowcases, dishtowels, and Christmas ornaments to baby blankets many of which she donated to the Benedictine nuns at the Abbey of St. Walburga for their gift store. Her Catholic faith was also an important ingredient of Ann's life and character. She was never far from her rosary.
Ann was a kind, loving, caring and giving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
