Arlene Bahe

February 21, 1938 — April 10, 2024

Our dear sister and especially beloved "Auntie" passed on to Eternity on April 10, 2024. in her home in LifeCare of Longmont with family around her.  Arlene was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and raised a few miles away in Fairfield.  She was a middle child, survived by sister Dorothy E.Bertch and brother Henry"Hank" G. (Kathleen) Bahe. Also, by her Bertch nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own:  Daniel, Betsy Woolf, Suzanne Andersen, Jessied Redd, Patrick, Irene Plessinger, Wesley, and Valerie Robinson,  numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, special cousin Nancy Anderson, and Aunts Helen Kadar and Rita Kadar.   She was predeceased by parents Henry F.G.Bahe and Irene Kadar Bahe, brother-in-law Frederick W. Bertch and great-niece Tara K.Redd.  Arlene had a happy childhood with a special love for dogs and babies.  A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Arlene liked leading music and teaching little ones. A graduate of  Andrew Warde High School, she became an excellent typist  for many years at Handy & Harman Precious Metals.  After time she wished to live close to her Bertch young ones, so made the move to Heber, Utah where she was employed by the County Sheriff.  The growing Bertch children loved sleepovers with their Auntie who gave them money to buy treats, etc.  Arlene followed the moves of the Bertches to Missouri where Arlene worked in Elder Care, and after 15 years on to south Louisiana.  Soon after her arrival  in Amite a Subway store opened and Arlene became a valued employee whom the teenagers called "The Grey-haired Lady" who loved to tease and chat with them.  An elderly gentleman and his grandson surprised Arlene when they came into the store and presented her with a basket of flowers saying,  "You wait on us when we come in. Some places in town ignore us."  After five years Arlene suffered a stroke that handicapped her right side.  She suffered her physical ailments through the next years with humor, grace, and acceptance.  Her time was spent piecing puzzles by the dozens which she glued for hanging on walls.  Declining health necessitated a move near younger family who found a home for Arlene in LifeCare of Longmont, Colorado.  She made friends of many staff through the 10 years she lived there.  Her last words to family and friends were, "I love you."
