Phyllis Arlene Wimmer Hill, 73, of Boulder passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Visitation will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 4655 Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00am.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00am, with Bishop Gary Dixon officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery and there will be a social gathering at the Boulder LDS chapel on Table Mesa Drive following the services.
Daughter of the late Harold J. and Lucille Wilcox Wimmer, Arlene was born on her father’s ranch in Duchesne County, Utah, December 30, 1940. She graduated from Duchesne High School in May 1958 as an Honor Student and Valedictorian of her class. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry Education, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University in June 1962. It was while attending BYU that Arlene met Donald Gifford Hill and they were married September 10, 1962 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. They lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Indiana prior to moving to Boulder in 1969.
Arlene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was known for her acts of service and helping others. She had a lifelong love of genealogy, producing a book titled “The Roots and Branches of the Harold J. Wimmer Family” which continues to serve as a reference for Wimmer Family genealogy. She enjoyed teaching Science at Juab High School, volunteering at Paddock Elementary School, and working as a para-educator and teacher’s aide at Fairview High School. Donald and Arlene served two family history missions; one in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library and the other in Hong Kong. She enjoyed an active lifestyle - walking, jogging, hiking, camping and the Colorado outdoors. She traveled to Europe and Russia before the Cold War was over and again in 1986 with her children. Arlene loved spending time with her extensive family and grandchildren.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lucille; four brothers Robert, Keith, William and Jack; her sister Edythe Marett; and her son Howard Hill.
She is survived by her brothers Kent, J.D., Lee and Max and sisters Jean, Elaine, and Sally and numerous nieces, nephews; her husband Don; daughter Heidi Snow; son Jared Hill; and two grandchildren Zach and Kaylee Snow.
