She was born in New Rochelle, New York on February 21, 1945, to Jacob “Jack” Weinstein and Josephine “Jackie” Adler. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1967. She went on to earn a masters degree from Suffolk University. She married John La Ferlita on April 4, 1975 in Annendale on Hudson. They went on a nine month honeymoon traveling all over the world. They went from Greece to Israel, Kenya, Mumbai, India, Nepal, Kashmir, Pakistan, and Istanbul. Audrey was an ESL teacher for the majority of her career, and worked in the St. Vrain Valley School District since 1975. She taught teachers for their recertification and developed her own courses in multicultural literacy through Colorado State University, and Colorado School of Mines. They have one daughter, Karyn La Ferlita (Sullivan). She loved to travel and spent most of her life doing just that. She was the most selfless, kindhearted and compassionate woman. She adored her 3 grandsons, Jack, Hayden & Will Sullivan. She’d been retired for 18 years and enjoyed swimming, water aerobics, water color painting, going to hear live music, journaling, reading and spending time in nature. She was a member of the Boulder Women’s Chorus and The Longmont Chorale as an alto. She was loved by her community. She volunteered at her grandson’s elementary school - Blue Mountain Elementary for years and later became a storyteller through the Longmont Library for Spellbinders for elementary schools all over Longmont. She was a life long learner. She loved to sing and loved music. She made friends wherever she went. She had a strong community. We want to thank everyone for all of your calls, texts, and sweet gifts that you have left for us. We will be having a private burial for her on Tuesday October 31 in Boulder. She will be more than missed.
