Carl Ostenso, known by friends and family as “CO”, passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 10th, one month after his 83rd birthday. Carl moved to Boulder after retiring from a 35-year career as an aerospace engineer for Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles. His passion for skiing, sports, and debating liberal politics was known by all who loved him. He spent many evenings socializing with friends at his favorite local spot, Murphy’s, and he rarely missed a Vikings game at the Outback Saloon.
As the third oldest of a Minnesota farm family of eight, his living family includes three sisters and a brother, along with their families. He was predeceased by his wife Lucie, the love of his life, and his dearest friend Eddie, who looked up to him like a father. Those dear to his heart include his long-time friend and downstairs neighbor Clorinda, who was a compassionate and caring companion, and his life-time friends from California, Marina & Leonard Shultz, and Rita & Clairin Mays.
Carl, never one for ceremony, requested no memorial service, but we encourage friends and family to share memories on this site, and to celebrate his life in ways meaningful to each of you.
While always preferring his favorite brown leather chair, Carl often spoke gratefully about the care he received during his intermittent stays at Manor Care. If inspired, donations to Manor CareHealth Services-Boulder would honor his appreciation to their staff.
