March 31, 1946 — May 20, 2021

Carl "Nick" Said 1946-2021
Carl (Nick) Said, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021, of natural causes at the age of 75. Nick was born on March 31, 1946 in Buffalo, NY to Carl & Louise (Gilbert) Said. He grew up in Hamburg NY. After graduating from Hamburg High School in 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the island of Okinawa and onboard the USS Embattle as a Nuclear Electronics Technician. Upon completion of his military service, he moved from Hamburg, NY to Cincinnati, OH and, in the mid 70’s, arrived in the place he loved, Colorado. He lived in Nederland for many years where he continued to serve his community as a member of the city's planning board. Nick spent the majority of his professional career working as a Field Service Technician where he was responsible for training the company's field service teams. He took a position with Memorex in California and longed to return to his beloved Colorado. When he returned to the Front Range Nick made his home in the Arvada community for most of his last 20 years.
Nick worked as Field Service Technician for a number of companies including Storage Tec, HP, Memorex, Avaya and McData/Oracle. He enjoyed working with his co-workers fixing problems and was well liked and respected by all who knew him.
In addition to work, Nick was an avid auto-racing fan. His love for racing lead him to start Said Racing where he drove Formula Fords on the SCCA racing Circuit. He loved restoring and driving cars, was an amazing photographer and cared deeply for animals, especially dogs. His beloved Basset hound, Maya, was a constant companion and support to him in the last years of his life.
Nick had a way of drawing out the best in people. He was kind and gracious with a quick sense of humor and ready smile. When asked recently what he believed his purpose was in life, he said that he loved helping people. Anyone who was lucky enough to know him will agree.
His wife, Karen Said, his parents Carl & Louise Said, his sister, Mary Lou and her husband Robert Luksch, preceded Nick in death. He is survived by five nephews, their wives and many great nieces and nephews.
