Carol (Benson) Skerjanec passed away on March, 31 2025 after a long struggle with an illness. To say she fought the good fight is an understatement, and part of that determination came from how she grew up. Carol was born near Thermopolis Wyoming on Christmas Day, Dec 25th, 1939. She spent her younger years on a homestead and a working sheep ranch near Meeteetse, WY. This life as a child sealed her zest for life and drove her toward meeting her goals. She was an accomplished horsewoman and graduated from Thermopolis High school.
Carol left Thermopolis after graduating from high school to seek her career. She first went to Casper College, then came to Denver to work for Parke-Davis Inc. as a secretary. She later met her husband of 63 years and after a short courtship, they married. Carol returned to school at the University of Colorado to seek her business degree. She worked part time at Bear Creek Elementary as a substitute admin, and for the Boulder Valley School District. She then worked for StorageTek in Louisville, CO and also went back to college and completed her degree in Business Administration. She was well known and loved throughout her career and made an indelible impact on everyone she served.
Carol's focus was on her family and she was the model of a caregiver. She was always present at her three children's sports events or school functions, and later did the same for her grandchildren.
Carol loved to travel and spent time in Germany, Italy, Slovenia, and Sweden. She was most proud of her Swedish heritage and was active in collecting her genealogy data. She is survived by cousins in Sweden and kept close touch with them. Always curious to travel and learn about lifestyles, she made a pilgrimage to Medjugorje Serbia where she developed a close relationship with the Virgin Mary.
Carol is survived by Richard Skerjanec, her husband, three children, Britta (Eric) Mundhenke, Kerstin (Andy) Dickson, and Tom (Cindy) Skerjanec, and her sister Betty Haulman. Her biggest joys were her crown jewels: her beloved nine grandchildren, one of whom we lost at a young age, and fifteen great grandchildren. She loved spending time with the little ones.
Carol was a good cook and looked forward to making the holidays special for the family. Large gatherings were on the top of her list. Outdoors hiking or walking were her favorite activities. She and her husband liked to travel in their RV to visit many states, making trips most notably to Alaska and Nova Scotia.
Carol was an organizer and looked forward every year to gather her old classmates for reunions in Wyoming. She especially enjoyed the reunions for the past residents of an oil town, Grass Creek, Wyoming where she spent her early days.
Donations in lieu of flowers should be made in her name to children's organizations, St. Jude or other brain cancer research groups in honor of her late grandson, Anders Mundhenke.
A rosary will be held on April 9th at 7pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Boulder, where she was married. The funeral service will be held the next day, April 10th at 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas followed by reception celebrating her life in the church's hall. Following the reception, she will be buried at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church on South Boulder Road in Boulder.
" I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
