A native Coloradoan, Charles G. “Chuck” Carlson passed away in Boulder on June 11, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born and raised along with his four brothers and four sisters on the family farm near Lucerne. A graduate of Eaton High School, he played on the 1940 state high school championship football team. His college education was interrupted when he chose to enlist in the Marines 3rd Division. He was deployed to the Pacific Rim where he proudly served his country in Iwo Jima, Guam, and China.
Upon his return from WWII, he married Jacqueline Hill. His career in banking, which spanned more than 40 years, began in 1959 at the First National Bank in Greeley. Chuck served on many boards and was past president of the T-Bone Club, the Greeley Country Club and the Weld County United Way. He was also a founding member of the Weld County Ducks Unlimited.
Sports, especially golf, football and fishing, played an important role throughout Chuck’s life. He enjoyed playing sports as much as he enjoyed watching them. Among the highlights were attending the Masters, fishing in Patagonia, and spectating at the Australian Open.
He loved traveling. Together he and Jacquie visited 33 countries including a trip down the Yangtze River with Eaton High classmate Ken Nix and his wife Jan.
His greatest love was always his family and his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jacquie, who passed in 2014. Chuck is survived by daughter Sally; son Charles “Butch” and wife Linda; goddaughter Jill Trotter; grandchildren Kristen (Matt) Sherman, Laurel (Emil) Wolmut, Andrew (Lauren) Carlson, Zac (Fumi) Carlson, Amy Carlson; great grandchildren Piper J and Olive Sherman, Ryan, Jake and Cade Carlson.
Chuck will be remembered for his quick wit, his kind heart, and in the last few years, his inspiration as he chose to live each day to its fullest.
His celebration of life will take place Friday, June 22 at 11 am at Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in his name, Charles G. Carlson.
