Dale Tyrus French
March 13, 1926 – August 11, 2021
Dale Tyrus French passed away peacefully at home on August 11. He was 95.
Dale was born March 13, 1926 in Hygiene, Colorado to Frank French Sr and Viola (Schaeffer) French. Dale did all of his schooling in Longmont, graduating from Longmont High in 1944. He served in the army/airforce and was stationed in the Philippines at the end of World War II, as an air control tower operator. Upon returning, he took a course in mechanics in Denver and after was an intern and then employee of the Great Western Sugar company. Later he spent some years at Dow Chemical. The rest of his career was spent at IBM, where his mechanical engineering skills were appreciated by all. He received several awards for his inventions and ideas for improving machine output.
In 1951, Dale was married to Patricia Ann Newton, from Mead, Colorado, the daughter of James and Laura Newton. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. They raised four daughters: Laura, Debra, Tamara and Amy.
Dale loved fishing, especially fly fishing in the high country of Colorado and Montana. He passed this love on to his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many hours were spent in his presence as he patiently stood by, teaching the finer arts of trout fishing. Dale and Patricia were faithful members of a supper club, along with five other couples, from the first year of their marriage until recently. They enjoyed many years of close friendship. Dale also enjoyed a regular group of his coffee buddies. It should also be noted that he was very gifted in carpentry: he built two of his homes with his brother, Frank, and could renovate and repair almost anything.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Viola, and by his two brothers, Frank and Raymond, as well as son-in-law, Bertrand Hourcade. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and their four daughters and sons-in-law: Laura Hourcade (wife of Bertrand Hourcade), Debra French and David Williams, Tamara French and Clifford Martin, Amy (French) Belcher and Mark Belcher. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Helen (Newton) Teter, and brothers-in-law, Ronald Newton and Marcus Newton.
Dale had a loving relationship with his grandchildren and great grandchildren:

and was greatly appreciated by numerous nieces and nephews from the Newton family.
