Daniel Herz, of Longboat Key, FL and Boulder, CO, died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 1 in Lafayette, Colorado. He was born on March 18, 1934 in Chicago, IL and grew up in Highland Park, IL.
Dan graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952. He began his college career at Colorado University in Boulder on a football scholarship. After one year, he transferred to Lake Forest College where he graduated with an English Degree in 1957. Besides his academic accomplishments, he was a member of both the baseball and football team. As a member of the football team, he twice earned Little All-American Honors. In 1979, he was inducted into the Lake Forest College Sports Hall of Fame. Following college, Dan served two years with the U.S. army and was stationed in Germany.
Upon his return to Highland Park, he met the love of his life Barbara Kriser, originally of Toledo, OH. They married on December 21st, 1960 and raised 4 children in Deerfield and Highland Park, IL.
Dan worked for over 35 years as an industrial auctioneer, eventually becoming president of Industrial Plants Corporation. He travelled throughout the U.S., as well as overseas, facilitating the auction sales of industrial machinery at large-scale manufacturing companies. He was both a skilled businessman and accomplished auctioneer. Dan retired in 1998 and eventually located with Barbara to Longboat Key, FL and Boulder, CO.
Above all else, Dan was known to be an exceedingly honest, kind, tireless, selfless, and generous man. He took great pride in his entire family and the legacy of his values will live on among them and all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his wife Barbara, his children David (Leslie), Robert (Karen), Jennifer Clark (James) of Boulder, CO; his son Joseph (Alice) of Highland Park, IL; his brother John of Boulder, CO; and his 9 grandchildren Alex, Max, Isabelle, Rachel, Molly, Eddie, Rosie, Josie, and Grady. He was preceded in death by his brother Stephen in 2016.
