David D. King
Mr. David D. King was born on March 31, 1939 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Post Mr. King’s graduation from West High School he enlisted in the United States Navy where he spent 3 years in active service and 3 years in the Navy Reserves. His love for Colorado began when he visited the state with his parents. He fell in love with the mountains and years later, in 1962, moved to Denver with his then wife, Judy, and son Thom.
Upon moving to Colorado, Mr. King worked in the construction industry and attended the University of Colorado where he studied engineering. As his experience grew, he started his own construction company called Diamond Contracting Corporation in the late 1960s. The company, based in Boulder, Colorado, specialized in building pipelines, lift stations and water storage and treatment plants.
Mr. King’s interest in ranching started in the mid 1970s when he bought 11 acres of land and he and his family moved to Niwot, Colorado. Here they raised champion cattle with his four children often assisting as ranch hands. From the small piece of land in Niwot, his cattle operation grew to 35 acres in Hygiene, Colorado. In the mid 1990s Mr. King sold Diamond Contracting and bought a 250-head cattle ranch in Walden, Colorado which he ran for a number of years before retiring to Rand, Colorado.
Mr. King was a lover of the outdoors and wildlife, an avid scuba diver, had a keen sense of adventure and was a world traveler. He was dearly loved by his friends and family for his unique sense humor, his generosity and his big heart. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his loved ones: Thom King (son), Cheri King (daughter), Gina King (daughter), Jill Casey (daughter), Ford Casey (son-in-law), Katie Casey (granddaughter), Lauryn Casey (granddaughter).
In celebration of Mr. King’s life, a memorial service and reception will be held at the Boulder Elks Club, 3975 28th Street, Boulder, CO 80301 at 3pm, June 16, 2017.
