Dennis Berry

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Dennis "Denny" W. Berry (1949-2025), of Boulder, Colorado, who left us on March 31, 2025 at the age of 76.

We are so grateful to Denny for the many things he shared with us; his creativity, his disciplined lifestyle, and the way he illuminated the lives of everyone he met. Born in Durand, Mi (nicknamed the railroad city) in 1949, to Frank and Helen (Rissin) Berry, Dennis attended Durand Public School and was a scholar athlete in wrestling and football at Durand High School. After graduating from high school, in 1967, he went on to work for Grand Trunk Western Railroad as a brakeman, saving money to support himself and fund his education. In 1969, he attended Ferris State College where he met his future wife, Dawn DeMaso. After graduation, Dennis went on to attend Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, for architecture school. Here he was celebrated as "most popular" by peers, he received a heartfelt standing ovation at graduation-a testament to his charisma and leadership. He went on to own and operate his own residential and commercial design business for many years, supplying countless homes and businesses with beautiful designs and drawing joy from his professional relationships.

Dennis loved spending time and prioritizing his family. Even as adults his two children still had weekly conversations with him. He will be profoundly mourned by his wife of 56 years, Dawn. Together they forged a partnership which became a blueprint for enduring love and an example to others on what a loving marriage is. His affectionate teasing and the way he always made her laugh will be deeply missed. Dennis will be remembered for the way he reveled in his grandchildren's accomplishments and helped to shape their wonderful characters.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife Dawn; children Shawn (Andrea) Berry of Boulder, CO; and Melanie Berry of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey; grandchildren Otto, Elsa, Ester, and Carmine; and siblings Jim (Claudia) Berry of Everett, Washington; Ken Berry of Carter, Georgia; and Vicki (Ted) Gurica of Ocala, Florida. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on April 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus School Foundation.
