Diana C. Manhoff passed away last week after a brief illness. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and spent her childhood in Queens, NY. Her father was Sam Cortz and her mother was Pauline Cortz (maiden name Kaufman). As a teen she volunteered as a candy striper.
After attending Queens College and The Chicago Art Institute, she embarked a versatile career dedicated to healing people’s relationship with themselves and others. At Flexible Careers in Chicago, with her trademark kindness and positivity, she supported women on their journeys to career success. Also in Chicago, she worked on a committee with The Hunger Project, an organization that aimed to create the conditions and mindset necessary to end hunger on the planet.
In Massachusetts she served as manager for the choral group “On Wings of Song” whose sacred vocal music came from the world’s great spiritual traditions. Next, Diana co-founded the image consulting business, Spectra. The business helped improve self-empowerment and body image for its clients and was featured several times in the local media. She then worked at various mediation programs affiliated with Harvard Law School. As a mediator, she helped to foster open communication in court situations and amongst parents and their children.
Moving on to Boulder, she initiated and co-facilitated a support group with Windhorse community services that gave families dealing with mental health challenges a safe space to share support and wisdom. She then spent time as a Horse riding side walker. In this position she supported special needs adults and young people in developing greater strength.
Diana was loved and cherished by her friends and family, including daughter, Jacqueline “Jax” Manhoff, and son, Christopher Manhoff. She will be deeply missed, but we truly feel that her spirit has been set free and her strength is within us now. We will always be grateful for her special presence in our lives.
She was a lover of organic green leafy vegetables, walking, lilies, roses, yams, baked apples, movies, music, dancing, poetry, spiritual teachings, fashion, animals of all kinds, yoga/movement and of course her children, family and friends.
Diana is survived by her children, sister Louise Bolton, Glen Bolton and his family, Helen Cuccaro, Nick Cuccaro, Ira Manhoff, Patrick Moynihan, John Cuccaro, Manroop Cuccaro, Nicky Cuccaro, Jasmine Cuccaro, Khela Thorne, Dave Thorne, Jackson Thorne, Madeline Thorne, and Sophie Star. She is preceded in death by parents, husband William Norman Manhoff, and companion cat Raphael. She had a very special connection with her friends.
Donations in her honor can be made to The Wildlife Sanctuary, 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643. www.WildAnimalSanctuary.org
