Edward Landon MConnell, 51, of Erie, CO, passed near his home on January 13, 2018, suddenly and unexpectedly. Ed was born February 28, 1966, in Tucson, AZ, to Col Landon E. McConnell and Rebecca McConnell. He graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, GA as Valedictorian. He attended Rice University and obtained two Bachelors degrees, one in electrical engineering and one in philosophy of history. He also received an MBA and a Masters of Finance at the University of Colorado. Ed began his career at National Instruments in Austin, TX as an Applications Engineer in November of 1990. After nine years in the Austin office, Ed took an offer in 1999 to become a Field Sales Engineer in Boulder, CO. Ed showed tremendous loyalty and dedication, remaining with National Instruments his entire 27-year career.
Ed and Kim met at Rice University in 1985. They married in 1991 and were married 26-years. Ed loved the outdoors and especially spending time with his family camping, hiking, and around the campfire telling stories. He was the Scout Master for son James’ Boy Scout Troop, Ed also loved to watch James play soccer, work through the Scout awards, and showed great interest in the areas that James enjoyed. Ed volunteered countless hours and was the biggest supporter for daughter Quinn’s track and cross country teams, which his wife Kim coaches.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Kim, as well as his children: Quinn, and James, his mother Rebecca, and his sister Sarah Ann. A celebration of his life will be held January 18th 10AM at Calvary Bible Church, 615 Evans Street, Erie CO 80516. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ed’s name to a memorial fund benefiting Compassion International through the "Place a Donation" link on this page.
