Erik James Kleiber, 31 years old, died on Thursday October 26th, 2017 doing what he loved, climbing in the great outdoors of Colorado. The day started sunny when he ascended the first Flatiron in Boulder Colorado, but a sudden snowstorm led to a fatal fall. He loved to hike, run, climb, ski, play Frisbee, listen to music, cook, travel, hang out with friends, and spend time with his beloved dog Miko. He was intelligent, funny, generous and honest. He thought deeply about his life in the world, speaking with care and deliberation. Born on December 5, 1985, Erik grew up in Iowa City Iowa, excelled in music playing percussion instruments in the West High School Band and earned a bachelors degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Iowa. He traveled to Australia, Nepal and South Africa before moving to Boulder Colorado in 2015. Erik had a talent for cooking and worked in several kitchens in Iowa City and Boulder, most recently at Frasier Meadows in Boulder. He is survived by his parents Paul and Charmaine (Weyrens) Kleiber of Iowa City, brother Will and his wife Holly and nephews Rowan and Kieran of Superior Colorado. Erik touched many people in his life and he will be greatly missed. He was a good soul, gone too soon. Please consider a donation honoring his memory to the Boulder County Humane Society or the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
