Fenton Bain

May 20, 1947 — July 6, 2013

Fenton A. Bain was born May 20, 1947 in Peoria, Illinois. He started his collegiate career at West Point where he played football, finishing his Bachelors at Bradley University, and his MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois. Fenton and Vicki married August 1, 1971, moved to California for a year, then made their way to Boulder, Colorado, where Fenton applied his studies in engineering at Gulf General Atomic.

He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1976, beginning his love for the CU Buffs! This eventually led Fenton to open his own successful law practice, Fenton A. Bain, PC.

Importantly, Fenton was very involved in the Boulder community. He was past President of the CU Buff Club and involved with it for as long as we can remember, where he organized the annual CU Buff Golf Club tournament for several years, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for athletic scholarships. Beyond fundraising, Fenton loved to bring people together at his tailgates - a tailgating tradition so famous for that the Denver Post wrote an article chronicling his 40-year run on the CU campus.

Fenton also thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, which included attending multiple Masters, organizing many years of the annual Bain Golf Invitational, and enjoying countless rounds with his friends in the Boulder community.

His memberships included the Buff Club, Boulder Country Club, Colorado Bar Association, as well as several other organizations. He was very generous with his time, both through pro bono work as well as several organizations for causes that he supported.

Most importantly, Fenton was a man with a big heart that loved his family, friends and community. Most recently Fenton thoroughly loved spending time with his granddaughter Nina Hall. His life was filled with bringing people together in various ways, something that brought him great joy and he did effortlessly with his comedic sense of wit.

He is survived by his wife Vicki Bain, son Jeff Bain, daughter Amy Hall (Michael Hall) and granddaughter Nina Hall, his mother Darlene Bain of Washington, Illinois, his brothers Mark of Washington, Illinois, Bruce and Brice of Peoria, Illinois, and Keith of Florida, along with his nieces and nephews Matt and Laura, Emily and Nick, and Dawn and Brett. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Bain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, which aims to promote research and education around the diagnosis, treatment, and eventual cure for mitochondrial disease; something that was near to Fenton's heart following his granddaughters recent diagnosis.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Stadium Club at Folsom Field, University of Colorado.
