Ferdinand Perz

December 16, 1921 — December 13, 2013

Ferdinand Perz, 91, died on December 13, 2013, in Boulder, Colorado. He was born on December 16, 1921 in Yugoslavia, now called Slovenia. He fought in the German army on the Russian front, where he cunningly survived a firing squad execution. After WWII, with his family’s homeland lost, he immigrated to New York in 1950. He worked as an aerospace quality control supervisor for 30 years. He lived with his wife, Sophie, in Ridgewood & Middle Village NY, part of the German Gottscheer community until he moved to Colorado in 2005 to be closer to his daughter.

Ferdinand is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sophie, his daughter, Katherine Velasco, his son-in-law Jim Velasco, and grandson Daniel, his sister Albina in Munich, Germany.

A viewing will be held at Greenwood & Myers Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8, with rosary at 7. Services will be at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10:00 am.
