Frank Wagner, 86, of Boulder, Colorado, met his Heavenly Father on March 16, 2023.
Frank had an incredible zest for life, especially when it came to enjoying the outdoors. He was an accomplished golfer, skier, fisherman and pianist. Nothing made him happier than golfing on a beautiful spring day, skiing the bumps of Mary Jane or biking along Boulder Creek. He also loved to travel and experience new cultures, marking each new destination with a red pin on his world map. More than that, he was a loving husband and engaged father and grandfather, always ready for a new adventure. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic churches.
Frank was born on October 6, 1936, in La Junta, Colorado, the only child of Frank Wagner, Sr., and Dorothy Affolter. Frank attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School where he lettered in baseball. He majored in electrical engineering at the University of Colorado and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the CU golf team.
After graduation, Frank relocated to the East Coast to work for Electronics Associates. It was there where he met the love of his life from Belfast, Ireland, Doreen Ward. They married November 13, 1965, in Forest Hills, NY. Frank couldn’t wait to return to his beloved Colorado mountains and the Boulder Flatirons, though, which is where he and Doreen raised their three children, Shivaun, Sean and Kerry. Frank had a successful high-tech sales career, and many fond memories, working for Storage Technology Corporation.
As a descendent of Jacob and Frederick Affolter, Frank was proud of his family’s Colorado heritage. The Affolter brothers were some of Boulder County’s first settlers and together they built an 1860’s cabin in their native Swiss style by Haystack Mountain. The cabin is now located in Old Mill Park in Longmont.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen; children Shivaun (Craig) Korfanta of Boise, ID, Sean (Christine) Wagner of Bakersfield, CA, and Kerry Wagner of Boulder, CO; grandchildren Sorcha, Eilish, Declan and Roisin Wagner, Janae and Jordan Korfanta, and numerous cousins.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder, CO, on March 29th. A Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 and reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
