Fred Saiz of Boulder, Colorado entered heaven peacefully Saturday evening, September 25. He was born January 13, 1919 in Las Vegas New Mexico. He was known affectionately in Boulder, Colorado simply as 'Fred the Barber'. He was just a few months short of 97 years young. Fred moved to Boulder in 1948 after serving in WWII as a machine gunner from the 1st Calvary Division and was a recipient of two Bronze Stars. He opened a popular barbershop in 1950, The Silver and Gold, which doubled as a comfortable local hangout in the Univ. of Colorado Hill District. Fred cut hair six days a week with a kind word for all but always had time for his family and friends and could be found fishing Boulder Creek or hanging out with his coffee klatch buddies. Fred was a good story teller and was written about in Pacific War Stories, but most of all, Fred was a friend to all, taking the time to listen thoughtfully to everyone and be of help when possible, not only with a kind word but also in deed. Fred will surely be remembered for his great haircuts, having only put away the clippers a few years ago, but he will also be remembered for his gentle humor and generous nature; a man who made a difference in the lives of many.
Fred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Katheryn, 4 daughters, Ellen Saiz, Karen Decker (Scott), Martha Lynch (Barry) and Laurie Saiz Parks, 8 grandchildren, Salvador Peralta (Tanya), Audra Guthrie (Michael), Caitlin Sharbono, Zach Decker (Kate), Kyle Lynch, Amy Lynch, Kelli Lynch and Susan Lynch. 6 greatgranchildren, Isabella Peralta, Jackson and LolaGrace Guthrie, Clara, Clayton and Carter (pre-deceased) Sharbono and Welsley William Decker.
He was greatly loved by many and will be enormously missed by all, but leaves us with our cherished memories and the peaceful knowledge that he waits for us with His Lord above.
