George C. Weigand, 66, passed away on May 3, 2018, at 12:40 a.m., following a battle with cancer.
George spent most of his life in the Akron/Cleveland, Ohio area before moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2016 to enjoy retirement closer to his children, where he thoroughly treasured every minute of sunshine, the mountains and being outdoors.
George was a Certified Public Accountant, beginning his career at KPMG. He later served as Chief Financial Officer of Rubbermaid, and during his tenure, Rubbermaid was named by Fortune magazine as the most admired corporation in America. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of Electrolux AB, North America.
George loved sports, but most especially baseball. While an undergraduate student at the University of Akron, he was a starting baseball pitcher. George also loved to golf and never missed an opportunity to squeeze in eighteen holes on a sunny weekend. When he was not playing sports, George was cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes football team. His passion for playing and watching sports, however, paled in comparison to his love of sharing sports with his children. He was a proud coach of their sports teams and spent countless hours practicing with them.
George is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kathleen, and their three children, Christopher and his wife Courtney of Boulder, Colorado; Matthew of London, England; and Katherine of Vail, Colorado, and by his daughter Kimberly Corwin and her husband Jason of San Diego, California and their two sons, Kai and Caden. He also is survived by his mother, Mary Weigand of Akron, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Olivia Rutkowski of Erie, Pennsylvania; his sisters, Sandy Costill and Janet Weigand; and his brother, Patrick Weigand, all of Akron, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, William Weigand and by his father-in-law, Robert H. Rutkowski. In addition, he is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Greenwood & Myers Mortuary, 2969 Baseline Road, Boulder, Colorado. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on May 7, 2018, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1318 Mapleton Avenue, Boulder, Colorado.
