Gregory W. Beytien died peacefully on April 5, 2023, surrounded by family at Boulder Community Health after a brief courageous battle with complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Greg, age 75, was a lover of people, had an engaging personality and a very warm sense of humor. He was a dedicated husband and father as well as a person of deep principle and commitment. He was professionally respected and deeply loved by many friends and his entire family. The sweetest, most caring, loving person, Greg always had time for others. He was intelligent, curious, and thoughtful.
Greg had many interests but loving his family was most important. Greg and Debra (Canning) Beytien were married on August 29, 1987. Debra and Greg loved to travel. Their favorite trips were Hawaii, Italy and Paris. They were magnificent dancers, whether it was at a family wedding, at their Salsa dance class or in the kitchen dancing to their wedding song, “Loving You”. The fruit of their love, daughters Megan and Molly, brought purpose to Greg’s life. He cherished them and was faithfully there to support them. Greg also formed a special bond with his stepson, Kevin Handley.
Greg enjoyed a long successful career, most recently, he was an Inside Sales Account Executive for Wolters Kluwer Enablon. For Greg, it was more than just a job, it was his passion. His focus was on helping large corporations adapt to the world we live in. He was not ready to retire, not even at 75 years old. He loved what he did, he liked to engage with people. Greg felt a calling, a mission, to help companies awaken to what is happening in the environment, what is happening in societal shifts. It was especially important to him to contribute to the betterment of the world. He wanted to contribute to preserving the planet, to making it better, to sustainability. Greg was an efficiency expert with a tireless work ethic and was recognized by his employer three times, most recently in 2022, as “Rock Star of the Year” for extraordinary performance, commitment to excellence and outstanding inside sales success.
An avid golfer, Greg enjoyed his time “in nature” on the course with his golfing buddies. He recorded a “hole in one” twice in his lifetime, including once on his honeymoon! He had a deep appreciation for Colorado’s “purple mountains majesty” especially while skiing or fishing. Molly and Greg shared a passion for music, from rock to blues to famous guitarists. Kevin and Greg bonded through playing the drums together. Megan loved taking dog walks with Greg, and gardening. He loved to cook; on the grill or experimenting in the kitchen for a family get together.
He always saw the lighter side of things and looked for humor in all situations including his final hours. Known for his funny faces, especially when someone was taking photos, he enjoyed making people laugh with a goofy smile or silly expression. He was just a constant crack up with a comic sense of humor, an atomic sense of timing and was an amazing storyteller.
Greg loved people. A natural listener, he appreciated engaging with people from all walks of life. He would stand up for people. He would like to be remembered for his care for others. He would gather information and utilize that information to help other people accomplish their goals. He was incredibly interested in people and their lives. He was passionate in a quiet, unassuming, non-pretentious way. Always upbeat and positive, looking at the bright side of things, he would often respond with an “Outstanding!” exclamation. People enjoyed being around Greg, from longtime acquaintances he would see at his high school reunions to people that just met him, including the caregivers at Boulder Community Health. The family would like to thank these healthcare professionals for their compassionate care.
Greg was born on July 20, 1947, in Rapid City, SD. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene Charles Beytien and Jean Loraine (Grant) Beytien. Greg is survived by, and will be missed by, his four siblings Thomas Beytien, Lynn Beytien, Elizabeth Bellmore and Diane McClean and several nieces and nephews. He developed a special relationship with his nieces and nephews and was very proud of them. They knew they could always run ideas by Greg to get some insights.
Greg graduated from Madison West high school in Madison, WI. He studied business, psychology, and social psychology at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Northern Colorado and completed the Management Certificate Program at University of Colorado Boulder.
Greg’s strong moral compass guided his commitment to non-violence, to the intrinsic value of life, and led him to become a conscientious objector to the Vietnam war. Greg was a special human being, a compassionate friend and will be profoundly missed.
