Harriet Quinn Johnson passed away on June 27 at Balfour Cherrywood Village in Louisville, CO. She was 92 years old.
Harriet made a mean flaming persimmon pudding, could hold her own in a competitive game of bridge, and throw a pool party like no one else.
She was born in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Jess and Harriet Quinn on May 29, 1926. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she graduated in 1948 and was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. Harriet met her husband, Stanley Johnson, at the University and they were married in 1949. During Stanley’s medical training, residency, and military service, they lived in Lincoln, NE, Oakland, CA, and Palm Beach, FL, until they settled down to raise a family in Saratoga in the early 1960s.
Harriet was a homemaker and mother to their three children, and enjoyed cooking, entertaining, playing tennis and bridge, and traveling, as well as being involved in local women’s clubs. She lived in the family home in Saratoga for 53 years before moving to Colorado in 2016 to be closer to family, where she lived in a memory care facility.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 1999, by her sisters Mary and Dorothy, and by her son-in-law Larry Sage. She is survived by her children Kathy Johnson, from Jacksonville, OR, Sue Sage, from Truckee, CA, and Scott Johnson and wife Myriam and their daughters Sarah and Eva from Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her sister Janet Kranau from Gothenburg, NE, and her partner of 18 years John Rohrbach, of Los Gatos.
Harriet will be remembered as a vivacious lover of life, a gracious host, a devoted mother and wife, and a positive presence wherever she was.
Harriet’s family will be holding a private celebration of her life in Saratoga with close friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, her family has asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in her name.
