Harry Stravolemos

Harry Pete Stravolemos died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the age of 78. He was born Oct. 18, 1933, in Shreveport, La., to Pete Stravolemos and Stamatia Pantelides Stravolemos.

Harry graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1951. He attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a pharmacy degree in 1956. He started his career with Lewis Pharmacy on East Kings Highway in Shreveport, where he worked for many years. He opened Harry’s Pharmacy in 1985. Prior to retirement, he worked for Medic Pharmacy and Rite-Aid. In 2007, he was honored for serving more than 50 years by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.

He was a life-long and dedicated member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Shreveport and held various volunteer positions, including president, on the parish council.

He was a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and was the Shreveport chapter’s treasurer for many years. He was named member of the year in 2003 by the regional chapter, Delta District 16. He was also a spirited member of the Shreveport Razorback Booster Club.

He moved to Erie, Colo., in March of this year to be closer to family and to move his wife into a memory-care community. He was a member of St. Luke Orthodox Church in Erie.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn Forrest Stravolemos; his daughter Jill and her husband Geoff Spakes and their children, Savannah and Grace of Erie, Colo.; his daughter Kristi and her husband Jonathan Wallace and their children, Megan, Tanner, Connor and Ashton of Bellingham, Wash; as well as his brother Emanuel Stravolemos and his wife Alice of Shreveport and his mother-in-law Thelma Sanders of Minden, La. and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmie Stravolemos.

There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18 at Rose Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport. The funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1719 Creswell Ave., followed by an interment service at Greenwood Cemetery, 130 Stoner Ave. Father Brendan Pelphrey of St. George and Father Jason Foster of Holy Nativity of the Lord Orthodox Mission will officiate.

Honoring him as pallbearers are Chris Booras, Dr. Chris Cosse, Ernest Demopulos, John Gaydos, Dean Mijalis, Mark Morton and Greg Panos. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Alex Booras, Charlie Booras, Sammy Booras, Dr. James Cosse, John Cosse, Leon Demopulos, John Georgiafandis, Gus Mijalis, Denny Morrison, Charlie Stamos, James Stamos, John Theo, Joe Trenado and all his brothers of AHEPA No. 8.

The family extends appreciation to the nurses and physical therapists of the Life Care Center of Longmont rehabilitation center and to Father David Mustian of St. Luke Orthodox Church for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church cemetery fund.
