Jack Lacy

April 23, 1940 — January 11, 2016

Jack William Lacy passed away on January 11, 2016, surrounded by loving family and friends who recited the Lords Prayer with him seconds before he died. Jack was born April 23,1940, in Sioux City, Iowa to Opal Gaffey and Lloyd Lacy. He lived on farms in various locations in Nebraska and Iowa, but his roots were in the Hawkeye State. He graduated from Schaler High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served his country proudly spending two years in Puerto Rico. Following four years in the service, he moved to Colorado in 1962 where he met his wife Patricia Williams. They were married in February 1964. Jack and Patty raised three children in Boulder, Co: Ann, Karen and John. Jack became a banker almost immediately, starting in data processing at First National Bank (aka Bank One) where he served as Vice President and loan officer. He then joined Colorado Business Bank in 1995 and retired from the banking industry in 2011. Jack had a profound effect on the local business community - turning business clients into life long friends. He was fondly called “Mr. Banker”. Jack was an active contributor, the fiber of his community. He was a participating member and officer in many organizations including the Boulder & Colorado Chapters of the Jaycees, United Way, Boulder Tomorrow, Rotary and Elks, YMCA, Imagine and the Boulder Historical Society.

Jack was also an independent business man in his spare time developing and managing properties and businesses. He, alongside his parters Rollie Lacy and Ron Fahrenholtz, built and managed Ace Self Storage and LLF Properties continuing until his death.

Patty Lacy died in 2001 after a long battle with lung disease. Jack was her exceptional caretaker throughout her illness. Later that year, he as a staunch Republican pursued and caught his favorite Democrat Mary Keenan Lacy. They enjoyed a bipartisan marriage and a very interesting political partnership. Surprising friends and acquaintances, they spent fifteen years working and playing together in Boulder and in their second home in Arizona. Mary cared for him at home until his death.

Jack enjoyed his early morning coffee group daily for forty years. They remain his lifelong friends. Upon retirement he developed additional groups of friends in Palm Springs and then Pebble Creek, Arizona. Jack’s personal interests included golfing, buying cars, managing projects of any size and helping everyone he knew. He woke up before the birds to plow the neighbor’s sidewalks and driveways. He was the official alarm clock for the family as once he was up, everyone had to be up. He started at the crack of dawn and didn’t stop until every project on his list was done.

Dick Wilson stood at Jack’s bedside and told him that he was the only man Dick knew that had never made an enemy.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife Patty. He is survived by his wife Mary Keenan Lacy, two daughters, Ann Lacy Balliet (Jon) and Karen Lacy Hackstaff (Donald), one son John Lacy (Molly), stepdaughter Tanis Keenan Whyte, stepson Brian Keenan (Allison), four grandchildren, Oscar, Madeline, Cash and Georgia, siblings Rollie Lacy (Sharon Lousberg) and Reta Aronson.
Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus School Foundation or the Cancer League of Colorado on behalf of Team Jack.

Jack Lacy spent his life helping everyone he knew in big and little ways. He dedicated his life to serving his family, his friends and his community - we are all the better for his presence. He touched peoples lives in ways that will not be forgotten. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of his family, friends and the Boulder Community.
