James Michael Tollefson (Mike) was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on December 9, 1956 to Pat Marrs and Jim Tollefson. He was the oldest of three - playing the role of big brother to Teri and Robert. He grew up in Oregon and New York, attending Mahopac High School and SUNY Brockport where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He met Moira, the love of his life, in college. They moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1980 and got married in 1984. He loved becoming a part of the Shapiro family and partaking in all of their New York, Jewish family traditions. He began his career as a financial analyst in the mining business and then moved to the medical device industry. In addition to his full-time work, Mike obtained his Masters Degree from University of Colorado Denver.
Mike and Moira were thrilled to become parents to their children, Paige and Aidan. He took so much pride in -- and was a big influence to-- their achievements, incredible athleticism and loved being their dad. Mike was a very supportive father and husband, always fixing things around the house, packing lunches for his kids, attending all school and sporting events and making sure his family always had everything they needed. He passed on his analytics abilities to Paige and Aidan (we’re still unsure where the athleticism comes from…). Paige and Aidan are extremely grateful for all of his love and guidance.
Mike was funny, handy, intelligent, loving, and at times, stubborn. He enjoyed sports, golf, spending time with his friends, food, good restaurants, trying new recipes, beer, rock and roll, live music, being a dog dad, and gardening. Mike loved to vacation with his family in Maui, and particularly enjoyed being out on the water and snorkeling. He was an avid Colorado sports fan and ecstatic to see the Nuggets win their first Championships just a few months ago!
Mike will be very missed by his friends and family.
