Jean Alice Barker died peacefully on Saturday 7/14 while watching Wimbledon tennis with Warren, her husband of 64 years. Jean was born in Minneapolis, graduated from the University of Denver, married Warren in New Jersey, and moved the family to Boulder in 1965. Jean and Warren raised three sons: Jeffrey, Allan and Bruce who also have families of their own. She has four grandchildren and was looking forward with excitement to her first great grandson on the way.
She served her community as a court appointed CASA representative (Child Advocate Services of America) for assisting underage children in the legal system. She worked for many years at Volunteer Connection, Voices for Children and Meals on Wheels.
She and Warren were longtime members and volunteers at Mountain View United Methodist Church. In 2012 she was honored by her church with the ‘Quiet Disciple’ award for her years of exemplary service and volunteerism.
She loved travel, friends, family and to laugh. Her laugh was a family trademark and she always lit up whatever room she was in. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held for her at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Pl Boulder CO 80303 at 10:00 am on July 23rd Also, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Mountain View United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow the memorial downstairs in Barker Fellowship Hall.
