Jerry D. Fockler of Louisville, Colorado died October 12 at Balfour Retirement Community. He was born to Fenton and Hazel Mullen Fockler in Clotho, Minnesota on September 3, 1924, and grew up in Mason City, Iowa. After high school he joined the US Army during World War II and served as a medic in the Battle of the Bulge and also assisted in the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria. Jerry returned after the war and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in chemical engineering. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Jane Lee Berner, on August 6, 1950. They raised their family in Charles City, Iowa, until relocating to Boulder, Colorado in 1970. He worked in pharmaceutical production with Syntex Chemicals in Boulder, Colorado, Shannon, Ireland, and Palo Alto, California. He and his wife retired to Phoenix, Arizona where he lived until 2010 when he moved back to Colorado to be with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Clorus Fockler. He is survived by four children, John (Kelli) of Mildenhall, England, Susan (Terry) LaVelle of Broomfield, Colorado, Zoe (Pat) Tancreti of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bob Sandler (Marc) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also six grandchildren: Sarah Shoemaker, Jaime LaVelle, Christopher LaVelle, Rachel Sandler, Kate Sandler, and Zane Fockler and four great-grand children whom he adored: Finnegan LaVelle, Hannah, Nick, and Jack Shoemaker. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 20 at 10:30am at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road. Interment will follow at Green Mountain Cemetery.
