Jo Anne Schlutter Judd
October 9, 1948 - October 13, 2024
Jo Anne Schlutter Judd, beloved wife, mother, Oma, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Lafayette, Colorado on October 13, 2024. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland to Adelaide F. and H. William Schlutter, Jo was an only child. Her childhood was filled with loving friends and family, along with long weekends at the family beach house on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
Jo went to Duke University and during her senior year she met her future husband, James B. Judd. She graduated from Duke in 1970 with a B.S. in Nursing.
After graduation and a stint in the Navy for Jim, they moved to Boulder in 1973 and never looked back. She first took a job at the old Memorial Hospital on Mapleton Avenue and years later, she worked for Head Ski as the company nurse. They welcomed their first born, Tobias Conrad, and 4 years later, twins Clayton Tyler and Corry Micaiah.
She was fortunate to be able to stay home with her kids and focus on their upbringing. Volunteer work was always a large part of her life. From the days of coaching BJS soccer with her kids, to endless wonderful hours with Boulder Valley Pony Club, to amazing friendships and experiences as the President of the Fairview Parent Organization, and many other volunteer gigs along the way. She felt strongly about helping others whenever and however she could.
In 1998, she accepted an offer from the City of Lafayette to be the event coordinator; planning, organizing and fund raising for 6 events per year. Working closely with the Chamber of Commerce, she helped organize the Oatmeal Festival, Wine Festival, Lobster Festival, Peach Festival, Celebrate Lafayette and Home for the Holidays. She took great pride in her days working for the city and developed many wonderful, lasting friendships and memories.
While she loved working, her true passions in life besides her family were sewing and quilting, traveling, German Shepards, horses, cooking, Christmas, social gatherings, Santa, gardening and exercise. And let's not forget about her unwavering love for Hershey kisses and Diet Coke. Who says you need a balanced diet to live a good life?
In some cases, she was a 2nd mom to so many. She was the best mom, and we were fortunate to have 76 wonderful years with her. An unfortunate accident in November 2017 almost took her life. However, with her strength and perseverance, she fought hard and overcame so many hurdles to allow us an extra 7 years together. Those years were true blessings.
She was a devoted wife; the mother everyone wishes they had; and the friend you felt lucky to be with. She made the world a better place and will be deeply missed. Jo Anne is survived by her son Tobias (Tanya) of Houston, Texas; son Clayton of Jackson, Wyoming; daughter, Corry Mielke of Lafayette, Colorado, and her 3 grandchildren, Veronica Judd, Sabrina Judd, and Taylor Mielke. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Cheryl Judd-Magee (John), and 2 nieces Sarah Kate Pease (Joe), Callie Lee (Nate), and her great niece Ginny Kat Pease. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Adelaide F. and H. William Schlutter, and her husband, James B. Judd.
Her life will be celebrated in the Spring of 2025. Please contact Corry for more information: jojudd2024@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Boulder Humane Society or The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado.
