Joan Tallman passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2021 with her family at her bedside after a battle with lung cancer at the age of 85. She was born in the town of Great Neck, New York on Long Island in March of 1936. Married her high school sweetheart in 1956 and they began their 65 year marriage raising their three daughters in Farmingdale, Long Island before relocating to Boulder, Colorado area in 1975.
Joan went to work as a bank teller in her hometown at the age of 16 and rejoined the banking industry in Boulder after her family was established, working for First National Bank, Bank One and Chase before retiring as Vice President at Colorado Business Bank in 2005. Her focus was operations and she embodied the best of what it means to be a people person. She made friends easily and enjoyed helping her individual and business customers of Boulder. Many who knew Joan fondly recall her as a "straight shooter, someone who told it like it was".
Joan enjoyed working as a Girl Scout troop leader when her girls were young. Over the course of 30 years Joan was involved with numerous Boulder community fund raising, volunteer efforts and organizations including St. Jude's Children's Hospital and breast cancer research.
Joan took pride in staying in close touch with a circle of her high school friends across the country (who humorously called themselves "the defrocked nuns") by hosting and attending their yearly get-togethers in various locations where frequently there happened to be a golf course.
Family life was critically important to Joan and she hosted Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas
gatherings that usually featured roasted turkeys which over the years got bigger and bigger until there were two birds on the dinner table.
Once retired, she played weekly games of Mahjong and cards with her buddies were a regular source of joy that the pandemic didn't stop as they moved their games online to their computers. For many years she enjoyed golf and cruise vacations with her family.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ray; daughters, Jeanne Pattison of Broomfield, Colorado and Melissa Hersey of Louisville, Colorado; brother, Charles Savage of Richmond, Virginia; and sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins by the dozens, too numerous to mention.
