John A. Prokop
1958-2018
Boulder, CO –
John Allen Prokop, 60, passed to eternal rest on Saturday, July 14, 2018 as the result of a motorcycle accident in the mountains near Nederland, Colorado.
He was born June 17, 1958, in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Markovich Prokop.
John was a 1977 graduate of Howland High School and after graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Stationed primarily in San Diego, CA, he proudly served his country for 8 years as an Underwater Welder/Diver in the U.S Navy’s Special Salvage Operations Unit. After retiring from the Navy, John moved to Boulder, Colorado where he earned a degree in economics from The University of Colorado.
As a Colorado resident for the last 33 years of his life, John was a loving and caring “host” to numerous family members and friends who would visit from across the country. Each morning, he always had a “smile, warm hug, and a hot cup of coffee” for his guests.
Being a competitive person who loved interacting with people, his professional career focused on sales. For over 15 years, before his untimely death, John was the leading sales representative for Precision Siding and Construction Company of Denver. Jeff Woodward, a friend and owner of Precision, described John as “a legend in his profession…not only a valued colleague, but a dear friend to us all”.
John was a passionate and kind man who had an unparalleled zest for living, enthusiasm, and sense of adventure. Being fearless to a fault, he was able to experience life in the moment with a true sense of gratitude and underlying joy. He appreciated and enjoyed skiing and hiking the Colorado Rockies, riding back road mountain four wheelers, motorcycles, movies, vacationing in the Caribbean, sail boarding, working out at the gym, and simple things….. hummingbirds, flowers, the sights, smells and sounds of nature, his dogs, Two Socks and Zeus (deceased) and spending quiet times with family and friends.
John was a beloved brother and loving friend who will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
John will be deeply missed by his loving siblings, Michael S. (Linda) Prokop of Warren, OH, Marilyn (Gary) Kozelski of Fowler, OH, Robert (Christy) Prokop of Westerville, OH, and Kathleen (Rick) Fetcenko of Cortland, OH; nieces and nephews Hannah, Audrey, Joseph, Michael, and Christina. He will also be deeply missed by Nancy Prokop of Manitowoc, WI. and his very special friend, Tiffanie Peterson of Interlocken, CO.
On July 23, 2018, John was buried, according to his wishes, in a pine box in the mountains in Estes Park, Colorado. With military honors and taps, on a beautiful day in the mountains, with family and friends by his side, he was given back to the earth, back to the Lord. God Bless you John, our beloved brother and friend. May you now be with Mom and Dad in heaven…and forever fly with the hummingbirds…
A memorial mass and dinner will be held in Warren, Ohio on September 15, 2018.
