Joseph M. Gruber, 53, died on June 13, 2012, in Leadville, Colorado, during the Ride the Rockies Bicycle Tour. He passed away while enjoying the sport that was his passion.
He was born on June 24, 1958, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Friends knew him as Joe and family called him Matt to avoid confusion with his father, Joseph John Gruber.
He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 1981.
Joseph had a successful career, spent mostly with Lockheed Martin, and most recently as a systems engineer.
He loved the outdoors and Colorado the most. He was an expert snowboarder and avid cyclist.
His greatest love was his family. He was a devoted and loved son, father, brother and friend. Joseph is survived by his children Joseph Dale ("Dale") and Anastasia ("Annie"), his mother Joan Bacchini Diotte, his sister Susan Smythe, his brother Kurt Gruber, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Gruber, and his sister, Kathi Woolwine.
