Julia Porter Herring
(May 26, 1939 - March 27, 2021)

Julia lived a life of joy and love. Born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Glencoe, Illinois. Julia graduated from New Trier High School and the University of Colorado, where she joined Gamma Phi Beta. Her Mother, Aunt and two grand-daughters were also G-Phi’s. She was FOREVER A CU BUFF (as is evident by all the paraphernalia she has in her home and has bestowed upon her CU grandchildren)! In her early days, she spent summers in Denver and Palmer Lake where she fell in love with Colorado. She moved to Boulder in 1957 to attend the University of Colorado and was always inspired by Colorado’s and her hometown of Boulder’s beauty and uniqueness.

She worked for Boulder Valley Schools and was active with skiing, tennis and most importantly raising her two sons. Julia was member of PEO, several book clubs, and a bridge group. She enjoyed the card making group at Frasier Meadows and was an active participant in Vespers.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Knight Porter, brother John, and daughter-in-law Kirsten. She leaves behind two sons; Christopher (Lisa) and Charles (Julie), Julie’s children Kenny and Abby, and four grandchildren she adored: Grace, Emaline, Adrien, Olivia and many, many dear friends. Following the passing of her daughter in law, Julia took an active role in Adrien and Olivia’s life providing encouragement, acceptance, support and most of all love.

Although her interests were many, the family will be planting a tree in her honor at Chautauqua Park in Boulder. In lieu of flowers, a tax-deductible donation to support not only this tree but the park, in her name, may be made to the Chautauqua Tree Steward Program. You can find more info here https://www.chautauqua.com/.

A memorial service in her honor will be held April 22nd at 2:00 pm at Frasier Meadows. Only direct family and Frasier Meadows residents may attend in person, for all friends outside of the Frasier community who would like to join online, please contact Chaplain Kelsey Hill khill@frasiermeadows.org or 720-562-4309.

God bless you Julia. You will be forever missed. We are blessed to have awesome memories, travels, and family time that you made so special. Your strength, independence, spontaneity, and joy for life is something we all will take away and become even more a part of each of us. We thank you for watching over all of us in your new role as our angel. May your legacy live on through your example of wisdom, decency and care! And, may you now rest in peace.
