Kenneth Charles Renner passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 at his home in Boulder. Ken was born July 25, 1938 in his family farm home near Cunningham, Kansas. His mother reported at the time that it was the hottest day of the year. He was born to Frederick and Mildred (Fiegel) Renner, the sixth of nine children. He graduated from Sharon Springs, KS High School in 1956.
On October 22, 1960, Ken married Judith Kreutzer in Marienthal, KS. He worked in the hardware industry for his entire life, beginning as a manager for Foster Lumber in Kansas. He worked as a wholesale hardware salesman for Townley Hardware for many years. This position brought his family to Boulder in 1973. Upon Townley’s closure as a company, Ken became Corporate General Manager for McGuckin Hardware in Boulder in 1986. He worked within the Boulder business community for the next 22 years, co-founding the Boulder Independent Business Association.
Known for his outgoing personality and story-telling ability, Ken touched many lives in many walks of life. He was an active member of his church, serving on many boards and councils, teaching religion and serving as a church lector for over 50 years. As a young man, he was a star athlete, recruited to Wichita State University for football. He remained an avid University of Colorado sports fan to the end of his life. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, Fr. Ronald, and James, and 3 sisters, Peggy, Judy and Dinah Rae. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy, four sons: Fr. Christopher of Arvada, CO, Scott (Hillary) of Falls Church, VA, Blake (Tracy) of Denver and Ryan of Boulder, and five grand-children: Ivy, Grace, Rose, Lily and Fox, and two sisters, Kathy Lane of Baldwin, KS and Marilyn Appl of Leoti, KS.
A vigil service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:00pm at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Boulder. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Boulder, 3300 Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, CO. A reception will follow.
