KENNETH D. ROSS, 77 AUGUST 14, 1941 - APRIL 21, 2019
SUGARLOAF

Kenneth Dale Ross went to his eternal home with his Savior and Lord on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, after a battle with cancer. He was born on August 14, 1941 to Ernie and Elsie (Pastore) Ross at Sugarloaf, Boulder County. Ken grew up on his family’s small ranch on Sugarloaf. He attended the Nederland schools graduating in 1960. He had a great love for his horses and spent his summer vacations trailing cows for local ranchers and many hours just riding the many trails in the high country. After graduation he worked for the City of Boulder until enlisting in the U.S. Navy, SeaBees assigned to Teams 508 and then 509 completing two tours in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Sugarloaf and worked for Boulder County on the road maintenance crew. He met his wife Linda and they were married on March 15, 1968, and have spent the past 51 years together at their home in the Sugarloaf Community. In 1972 he formed his own excavating business, Kens Excavating LLC, working until he retired in 2012. He was a member of the unofficial “McDonalds Social Club” where on many mornings he shared coffee with his friends and “tall story tellers.” He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and camping. He was always happy any time he was on the back of a horse spending many hours riding the trails with his wife and son JR. One of the most memorable trips he was able to take was when his son-in-law took him and a small group of friends on a pack trip where they spent a week camping, riding and fishing through the remote areas of the Teton Wilderness Area in Wyoming. He had great love for his God, family and country and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy Tyler, brother-in-law Robert Tyler, and his son David Ross.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Linda, his daughter Alice (Jim) Emerson of Wyoming, his son Kenneth (JR) Ross, Jr. of Sugarloaf, his nephew Nathan Tyler of Lafayette, niece Andrea (Max) Kirsch of Lafayette, three grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved quarter horse Rocky.
