Loretta Jean Paparella, a retired nurse and resident of Broomfield, CO, passed away on August 25, 2015 in Boulder, Colorado at the age of 70.
Loretta was born on September 12, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to Leonard and Jean LaRocca. She attended Mount Vernon Hospital School of Nursing in Mount Vernon, NY and graduated in 1965 as a Registered Nurse (she later went on to complete her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing in 1992). Loretta married Alfred Paparella on May 11, 1969 and gave birth to a son, Luke, on July 19, 1970. The Paparellas fell in love with Colorado and moved there in 1972. Loretta spent the majority of her career working as a Dialysis Nurse at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver. She later went on to work in Dialysis Home Care and briefly managed a Home Health Care agency in Longmont, CO. She retired in 2001.
Loretta was a warm, kind, fair, and compassionate woman who cared genuinely about her patients and took great interest in their lives and wellbeing. She had a friendly and inviting personality and greeted everyone with her beautiful and infectious smile. Loretta cared deeply for her family who reside in Colorado, New York, and Virginia. Her son, Luke, describes her as an unconditional support from the day he was born; she made him feel safe and important, she was there for him no matter what, and she inspired his vision of the world.
Loretta was also a woman of many hobbies. She had a love for animals, especially dogs. Her other interests included bird watching, wildlife, politics, gardening, cooking, piano, guitar, singing, hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and travel. She was a member of the Audubon Society, the Denver Art Museum, and the Unitarian Universalist Association, and participated in a book club, a movie club, and her church choir. Loretta will be deeply missed by her friends and family, and by all who knew her.
Loretta is survived by her son, Luke Paparella of Denver, Colorado; her husband, Alfred; her brothers, George and Leonard LaRocca; her nieces, Kristy, Marissa, and Sarah Jean LaRocca; and her nephews, Gregory and Doug Brennon. She is predeceased by her parents, Jean and Leonard LaRocca.
