Marjorie Sorge

November 7, 1934 — August 11, 2018

Marjorie Aline (Romine) Sorge, resident of Centennial, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Marge was born in Rugby, North Dakota on November 7, 1934 to Jesse and Thelma Romine. She attended Carrington High School, where she was involved in Cheerleading and National Honor Society. She graduated in 1952. Upon graduation she worked for Northwestern Bell in Minot, North Dakota. She was promoted several times and transferred to Oaks, ND where she met the love of her life, The Rev. Elliott Sorge, who was Pastor at the local church. They were married on September 4th, 1959 and moved to Fargo, ND, where their three children, Ruth Sorge, Marianne Ell Sorge and Bryan Sorge were born.
Having spent her entire life in North Dakota, it took great courage to move with her husband and three children under the age of four to Brazil in 1964, to perform missionary work. While planning to stay for 3 years, after Elliott’s election as Bishop they served the Church in Brazil for 13 years. There were four major moves made within the country during those years: Campinas, Belem, Santos, and lastly, the city of Sao Paulo. Marge was a very devoted, mother and servant at heart. She volunteered as a fundraiser for the Leper Colony and assisted at the medical clinics associated with the Church in Belem. She sang in the choir and helped with altar guilds in multiple parishes. She worked tirelessly to organize the library at the seminary in Sao Paulo, by cataloguing every single book. As a Bishop’s wife, Marge was an exceptional partner and an excellent homemaker, as her husband traveled a great deal.
In 1977, the Sorges moved to Armonk, New York, where Marge was a busy mom, sang in the choir and served on the church vestry. She was a constant cheerleader to her children and always said, “Once a Mother always a Mother” because she cherished her family. Instead of telling her children to have a good day, she would say: “make it a good day”. She also instilled in her children that “if they were going to do something, to do it right the first time”. She attended all of her kids’ high school sports activities three seasons a year, and attended music programs as well. She always welcomed her children’s friends at home and treated them like her own. In 1982, she battled breast cancer. In 1983, upon the election of her husband as Bishop of Easton, they moved to Trappe, MD. She and her neighbor loved to make arrangements and Christmas trees for the Hospital Auxiliary. She served on the Children’s Home Foundation, where she interviewed students applying for financial support for local colleges. Soon after her husband’s retirement in 1996, they moved to North Carolina where she logged 600 hours at the local hospital as a volunteer. Elliott and Marge moved to Colorado in 2001 when it was announced that they were having triplet grandchildren. In the following years there were many hours spent babysitting and hosting sleepovers, traveling to see older granddaughter Felicia in North Dakota, family trips to Pagosa Springs, and countless special moments and milestones celebrated together. Marge placed the highest value on family and her greatest joy was being a fun-loving Nana to her four grandchildren.
Marge always had a smile on her face, a sparkle in her eyes and a giggle under her breath. She loved people and they loved her. She loved people watching, socializing with friends, playing non-competitive bridge, traveling, and watching baseball games. Her love for her family and faith were unwavering.
She is survived by three children, Ruth Sorge of Denver, Marianne Sorge Ell and her husband John of Whittman, MD and Bryan Sorge and his wife Jennifer of Denver; four grandchildren; Felicia, Caroline, Audrey and Luke; three step-grandchildren Kip, Craig and James Ell and several step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Elliott Sorge.
