Michael LaSalle

June 29, 1939 — March 14, 2025

Mickey La Salle, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on March 14, 2025. Born in Louisville in his childhood home, Mickey lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family, community, and passions.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport for many years before taking up playing pool when he was no longer able to golf. He was a true sports enthusiast, having played in an adult softball league, and his love for sports extended into his teaching career. After graduating from Louisville High School, where he played a key role in securing the State Football Championship in 1956, Mickey continued his commitment to athletics by becoming a Jr. High P.E. teacher. Over the years, he coached Junior High sports, including football, wrestling, and girls' volleyball, and officiated various other sports. His love for sports was matched only by his dedication to his students, earning him numerous awards for his achievements in teaching.

He was also an accomplished oil painter, and many of his works reflected his deep love for golf and the beauty of nature. His artistic creations brought him joy and allowed him to express his love for the world around him. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he had a passion for his home and family, taking great pride in planting flowers and creating a beautiful yard.

A natural cook, Mickey delighted in preparing meals, and one of his most cherished traditions was the Christmas Eve dinner that the entire family eagerly looked forward to each year. His cooking and hospitality were a source of joy for his loved ones, and his home was always filled with laughter, warmth, and the delicious aromas of his culinary creations.

Born and raised in Louisville Colorado. (He was literally born in Louisville in his childhood home.) He attended Louisville High School and participated in sports taking home the State Football Championship in 1956. In 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, who was also born and raised in Louisville, CO. Both families knew each other quite well. He lived most of his life on the same block with his childhood home being on Main street and in 1967 moved into his current home just across the alley on La Farge Ave. He and his high school sweetheart, Marilyn, married in 1960 and spent their lives together in the same community, raising their four children in the same house in Louisville. Their love and devotion to each other and their family were the foundation of a strong, loving home. After receiving his teaching degree from CU Boulder in 1963, he began his career as a Jr. High teacher and continued his education and earned a Master of Science degree in 1969, further enhancing his ability to inspire and teach his students.

In 1994, Mickey retired at the age of 55, allowing him more time to pursue his hobbies and travel with Marilyn. Their adventures took them to Europe, on a cruise through Alaska, and to many other places, creating memories that they cherished. He was the patriarch of his family, with his children and grandchildren looking up to him with the utmost respect and adoration. His love, wisdom, and guidance were a constant presence in their lives.

In his later years, Mickey and Marilyn extended their family to include a group of dear friends from their church. Every Sunday, they gathered over coffee and doughnuts, sharing stories, laughter, and the bond of friendship.
