Michael Walth
May 30, 1947 - November 6, 2024
Michael Owen Walth, age 77, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away on November 6, 2024. Born on May 30, 1947, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Earl M. Walth and Margaret A. Rasmussen, Michael was the eldest of four children, with one brother, Stephen, and two sisters, Janet and Mary.
Michael graduated from St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1965, and went on to earn a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He married Margaret Salopek in 1970, and they made their home in Boulder. Later, Mike lived in Louisville, Colorado, where he formed many treasured friendships.
Michael enjoyed a distinguished career as a satellite programmer at Raytheon Technologies Corporation in Aurora, Colorado. He retired after many years of work that he found both enjoyable and fullling. While his professional accomplishments were a testament to his analytical mind,Michael's true character was dened by his rich and varied interests beyond his career.
An adventurous spirit, Michael loved to travel and capture the world through photography. Some of his happiest moments were spent hiking and camping with his nephews, where he shared his deep appreciation for nature, exploration, and the great outdoors. He also enjoyed passing on his love of mathematics, languages, astronomy, gardening, and fascinating facts about the world to those around him. An accomplished woodworker, Michael was skilled in creating custom furniture that reected his craftsmanship and artistic eye.
A lover of history and genealogy, Michael dedicated many hours to researching his family's roots. Unfortunately, in the tragic Marshall Fire of 2021, his extensive photography, genealogy research, and woodworking projects were lost.
Michael is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sister, Mary (Steven); and his sister-in-law, Brenda. He is also survived by his nephews, Gregory (Kate) Walth, Mark (Jennifer) Walth, Benjamin Walth, and David Wilson, and his niece, Christene Hoyt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Stephen, and his sister, Janet.
Michael's dry sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and deep love for his family will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the memories of the time he shared with us and the love he gave so freely.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
