Nahida Abboud

October 10, 1951 — July 30, 2016

Nahida Abboud died peacefully on July 30, 2016, surrounded by her children in Boulder, Colorado.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Nahida was a devoted Christian and matriarch of the family. She dedicated her entire life to raising her family and caring for others.
She was born and raised in Syria where she was surrounded by family and friends. On 1/12/1969 she married Nabih Abboud. After a brief stay in Brazil, the couple returned to Syria and settled in Tartous. Together they had seven children. Nahida devoted her life to ensuring her children were well educated and of exemplary character. Her husband Nabih passed away in January of 2007 in Tartous, Syria. Nahida spent the remainder of her life traveling between her children in the United States, Jordan and Syria. The love she fostered among her children left behind an unbreakable bond between them. She spent this time helping to raise her grandchildren and keeping her family close and connected. She cared for her ailing parents, supported her children and cared for her grandchildren. Always finding visionary solutions to everything that came her way.
She was selfless and extremely patient. Nahida was a beloved and generous friend to all who knew her and she treasured each friendship for its own uniqueness. Her memory will be eternal in those who knew her. She was a woman of peace, who put others before herself.
Some of the things Nahida loved to do with her family included: cooking her amazing food, playing with her grandchildren, talking with friends and making new friends, going to church, singing psalms, gardening, watching Arabic shows and walking outside.
On August, 2014, Nahida suffered a tragic accident in which she was hit by a car. She sustained a traumatic brain injury and spent the final two years of her life working diligently towards her recovery with courage and laughter. Even though she could not communicate easily, people were still drawn to her. Nahida always viewed the world with much optimism. Her faith in God was so strong that any hardship that came her way could not alter her lighthearted nature. This was purely evident in the last two years of her life. Rather then becoming angry and frustrated at her situation, she smiled and laughed while she endured much pain. She never wanted anyone to feel sorry for her or to make others upset around her. Her joy in life was seeing everyone around her content.
Nahida is survived by seven children of whom she was very proud. Lydia, Roula (Bassam Haddad ), John (Nisreen Khazaal), Haifaa (Jamal Oweis), Danny (Anna Barton), Rami (Lynne Ashkar), and Ramia.
She is also survived by twelve grandchildren whom she loved deeply.
