Nancy Louise Mathers Oncley died unexpectedly at home in Boulder, CO, on 30 December, 2018. She is survived by her mother Janet Mathers, brother David Mathers, and sons Douglas and Alexander (Sasha) Oncley. She was predeceased by her father L Douglas Mathers and brother Paul Mathers. Nancy was born 11 May 1957 in Duluth, MN, and spent her youth in Cloquet, MN. She received her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Music Education from Concordia College. She was a letter carrier in Santa Ana, CA, where she married her husband of 31 years, Steven Oncley. In 1989, they moved to Boulder, where she continued working with the Postal Service. She played ‘cello in several community orchestras. Taking a break from work to raise her sons, she later volunteered with EFAA, Meals-on-Wheels, and various school functions. At the time of her death, she was assistant manager of the Boulder Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Nancy was driven by kindness and self-sacrifice. Her sense of humor enabled her to interact with anyone. She was a devoted mother to her beloved sons Douglas and Sasha. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on 19 January at 4pm at the Greenwood and Myers Mortuary in Boulder. Memorial donations may be sent to the Emergency Family Assistance Association of Boulder.
