Nancy Kay Riedesel Spencer

Nancy Spencer enjoyed a wonderful life. She was born Nancy Kay Riedesel in Davenport, Iowa on January 19, 1935. Her parents Francis Clark Riedesel, and Dorothy Franco Riedesel, resided in Iowa where Nancy was raised.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Alan Riedesel, and her step son, Curtis Spencer and his family. She had four grandchildren. Nieces include Christine Riedesel Oesterling and Claudia Riedesel Notz; nephews include Mark, Matthew and Craig Riedesel. She had six great nieces and nephews.

As a young lady, Nancy loved basketball and helped her Monona high school team place second in the state basketball tournament twice. She earned her B.A. at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, IA, and remained life-long friends with her roommates from her college days, traveling to roommate reunions even into her 80’s. Her first teaching position was in Alpena, MI. She moved to Denver and became a high school home economics teacher. She enjoyed a long tenure as a terrific teacher helping young people learn how to cook and master life skills. Nancy married her beloved late husband, Curt Spencer, March 1, 1982.

Nancy and Curt had a very long and loving marriage. They were devoted to their dogs including Poggie, Cammie, and most recently Rosemarie. They enjoyed many hobbies together including traveling on road trips, crafts, his woodworking and her sewing. Nancy was incredibly talented in the kitchen, and enjoyed crafting ornate holiday table-scapes with the changing seasons. Nancy also had an extensive Madame Alexandre doll collection.

Most recently, Nancy lived at the Green Mountain Brookdale assisted living community and was known to always have a pleasant word or smile for everyone she encountered during the day. She enjoyed all the social interaction with fellow residents, and everyone loved her and her dog, Rosemarie.

Nancy passed away on Dec 19th, 2018, surrounded by loving friends and family.
Burial services will be at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver Colorado on Dec 26th at 11 a.m.
