Opal Eleanor Telleen, 102 years old, passed away March 8, 2018 at Frasier Meadows in Boulder. She was born in October 4, 1915 in Nemaha, Iowa to parents Adolph and Bertha (Sjöberg) Johnson.
Opal married Carl L. Telleen October 20, 1939 in Nemaha. They had five children, James Telleen, Jane Gortney (Dan), Nancy Taddiken, Richard Telleen and Steven Telleen (Clare); grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Aaron, Adam, Ashley and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Alec, Tatyana, Violet, Seth, Juliet, Iris and Liam.
Opal had many interests to keep her busy including her Garden Club, Volunteering and a water color group. She lived a long and happy life and was the rock of our family. Opal was a Registered Nurse and then managed her husband's veterinary office at a time most women did not work, a real trailblazer. She will be remembered as a caregiver and inspiration to her family and many friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and her six brothers. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Robert Telleen and numerous nieces and nephews. Opal’s family would like to thank the staffs of Frasier Meadows and TRU Hospice for their caring, kindness and compassion to our mother and our family.
A memorial in celebration of Opal’s life will take place at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 24 at Frasier Meadows. A memorial and Interment will be in Gowrie, Iowa at a later date.
