Robert (Bob) John Mahler, 82 of Louisville, Colorado passed away at home on July 8. Bob was born on March 17, 1932 in North Hollywood California to Robert and Bertha Mahler and spent most of his young life in California. During his youth, Bob was active in Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts and he played piano in a dance band (Jacque Robinson and his Mellow Men). Bob attended UCLA, and received a PhD. in physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. During Bob’s long and distinguished career, he worked for the US Postal Service, National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) as well as NOAA. He was a Captain in the US Air Force and was posted to Alaska as a weather forecaster.
On December 21, 1959 he married the love of his life, Ann McGuckin; they have two children, Robert and Heidi. Bob enjoyed playing the piano, making wine (a skill he learned from his father), running (according to his records, he ran over 100,000 miles during his life) and traveling (especially with the whole family). With the exception of Antarctica, there is not a continent that Bob and Ann have not visited, and there is not an ocean they have not sailed. Bob is survived by his wife Ann; his daughter Heidi, her husband Stephen Prentup; his son Robert his wife Audra; his sister Betty Vess; his grandsons Matthew John Prentup and Devin Prentup and his wife Amanda and his great-granddaughter Liberty Prentup. Rosary and visitation will be held Monday, July 14 at 6:30 PM at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder CO, 80303 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 15 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart of Mary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Sacred Heart of Mary or Children’s Hospital in Denver is requested.
