Roberta “Bert” (Sankey) Barnes Short June 29, 1934 – February 13, 2019

Bert Short passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the age of 84. She was a loving mother and friend to her two children Brent Wallace Barnes, (Elsa) and Cynthia Anne Boyd, (Kent Soukup). She adored her five grandchildren, Kimberly Catherine, Heather Elizabeth, Ryan Joseph, and Kent’s two children, Christine (Tom) Jensen and David (Bethany) Soukup. She was blessed to share the early lives of her twin great granddaughters Clara and Sophie, and most recently blessed with the birth of her third great granddaughter Marlowe. She was supported in life by her two sisters, Virginia Boyer and Marian Grande. They had one brother whom they all cherished, Frank Paul Sankey whom proceeded her in death.

Roberta was born to Dr. Robert and Frances Sankey and lived her young life near Pittsburgh, before leaving to graduate from Pennsylvania State University where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta. Bert raised her two children in Virginia as a successful real estate broker in McLean, Virginia. She is proceeded in death by her husband Laurence Anthony Short with whom she shared a wonderful life with world-wide travel, entertainment, golf and tennis. Bert loved to dance, play bridge, host parties, and surround herself with laughter, smiles and happiness. She was frugal to say the least, always had a ready smile, loved her “Bertinis” and shared her laugh as the necessary medicine of life as she was the first to laugh at anything off color or at her expense.

Bert’s service will be on Tuesday, February 26 at 3:00 pm at Saint Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Boulder.

Donations in honor of her life can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
