Rocky Kupfner

January 18, 1965 — October 26, 2022

Rocky passed away peacefully on October 26th, at home, surrounded by loved ones. His strength, determination, and faith was present during his two year battle with cancer.

Rocky was born in Boulder, Colorado to George Daniel and Bonnie Louise (Pancost) Kupfner. He was the youngest of six children. Rocky grew up in a large family of Kupfners, Hogans, and Pancosts. He had many horseback riding, sports, and hunting adventures with his family throughout his life. Rocky got his first horse at nine years old and spent the rest of his life riding horses. He enjoyed sharing that with his kids and grandkids. One of his favorite things to do was to take his family, friends, and horses up to camp in South Dakota. Whether it was branding or working cows, Rocky was going to be there.

Rocky started working at eight years old with his brothers Tim and Tom delivering papers. At 12 he worked at Sombrero Ranch and sometimes had to take the bus to get to work. Rocky played sports, but football was his favorite. He played semi-pro with his brother Tom on the Boulder Outlaws.

Rocky married his high school sweetheart Betsy Schaeffer in November of 1984. They have five children, Lacie (Jorge), Ash (John), Kaila, Rocky, and Jordon (Amber). Aside from spending time with his kids, he most enjoyed his 12 grandchildren; Alexia, Angel, MaKenzie, Paige, Brinnlee, Giovonni, Liam, Coltan, Leland, Leela, Delanie, and Jax. When he was feeling well you could find him cheering on the grandkids while they played sports.

Rocky worked at Johnson’s Publishing for ten years with his brother Tim and then ventured out as an owner operator of a semi truck. Rocky and his late brother Tom worked together to set up the Denver Grand Prix and the St. Pete’s Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Florida. He continued setting up various race tracks in Florida and made many great friends throughout the years. Rocky spent a lot of time with his dad working in the trucking industry. When they worked in Boulder they took advantage of going to his mom’s house for lunch. He loved being able to spend time with both of his parents and grandmother. He spent as much time at his Grandma Helen’s as possible, where he was surely spoiled rotten.

He is survived by his wife, five kids, 12 grandkids, brother Tim (Kari) and many nieces and nephews.

He was reunited with his father, mother, brother Tom, and niece Brittney.
